The Cultural Arts and Dance Association is pleased to announce our first annual World Dance Celebration, Festival and Gala Showcase, Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 10:00am to 9:00pm. This event will be held at the wonderful Historic Hoover Theater in San Jose (across the street from the Rosicrucian Museum). We selected this location because of its easy access for the community (both presenters/vendors and audience), the abundance of free parking and the overall pleasant feel and mood of the venue and surrounding community! We are excited to present this event, for it will give individual performers, dance studios and dance companies across the Bay Area an opportunity to show their talents and love for dance while entertaining an audience of dance lovers throughout the day. The festival will include: food and shopping vendors, professional presentations through mini workshops and demonstrations, festival dancing throughout the day and an evening festival showcase and gala featuring world dance presented by some of the finest community dance companies in the Bay Area. 6-week dance workshop Getting into the Rhythm with Athena Najat
Understanding the turkish 9/8 rhythm Technique, rhythm, and choreography
A “must” for ORIENTAL DANCERS of all styles, and an appropiate class for ANYONE interested in dance, rhythm and music of the Mediterranean and Balkan region!
Athena shares her knowlege and experience in Turkish and Romany dance in this 6 week workshop. Having tremendous appeal in previous workshops on the topic, Athena has been invited to offer this in-depth 6-class workshop to allow students to feel connected to music in 9/8, and to start to feel “at home” with the rhythmic pattern and specific quality of movment which makes balkan music and dance challenging as well as exhillerating.
Rhythms, steps, performance techniques and improvisational tools will be offered. The series will culminate in a chorography and an opportunity to perform in a group show!
