Miami Belly Dance Convention – Jihan Jamal

Jihan Jamal!

Excellent Instructor at the Miami Belly Dance Convention 2010!

B.O.D.Y RAKS EXTREME 2010 WORKSHOPS BY JIHAN JAMAL, FOR MBC:
Class Syllabus, Day one:
EXTREME CHOREOGRAPHY SERIES – Jihan Jamal’s “Mermaids of the Nile” – Dance Theatre choreography for solo artist and/or dance troupe; One of Jihan’s favorite dance piece productions, set to the composition by Mohammed Adbel Wahab, “Fi Youm Wa Leyla” (All in a day and a night). This choreography is a mix of both Classical Raks Sharqi technique, with elelments of Egyptian and Tunisian Folk and interpretational nuances (floor work), and the use of “jarras” (vases) as props. The piece can be performed with veils, in lieu of the water vases. Please wear leggings, tights or dance pants, so that you feel comfortable descending to the floor. Bring veils. If you have an unbreakable vase, please bring it as well. I will have some available.
Class Syllabus, Day two:
EXTREME CHOREOGRAPHY SERIES – Jihan Jamal’s Baladi and Interpretive Fusion piece, “EL KHAHIRA – A CUBAN IN CAIRO” – Dance Theatre choreography for solo artist and/or dance troupe. This choreography is an inspiration of my own travels and experiences in Cairo, The City Victorious – “EL KHAHIRA”, and it is a Baladi piece with elements of Cuban “Guaguanco” (an Afro-Cuban bi-product of Rhumba) and “Chancleteo” (wooden sandal dance, worn by women in the pre-Castro carnivals in Cuba to “arroyar” (drag-walk), which are also used in Cairo in the hammams (baths). This is a very energetic, invigorating and fun piece; the music for this number is Egyptian Pop.
