Shake over the past years has grown from a day of Energy, Movement and Dance to a unique week-end of multicultural and international relaxation and holistic living – come for the weekend – stay locally or camp around the castle – but also, if you prefer, just pop-in for your preferred course – this is a special time-out for everyone – every age – every taste – every family – a community switching-on!

Workshops.

With children’s workshops in Circus Skills, Jazz and African Drumming, a bouncy castle and facepainting, specialist workshops for mums and dads and market stalls to browse, as well as live music and dance demonstrations there will be something for the entire family at Shakefest! This is a community run holistic fair day for families, international dance enthusiasts and anybody who is active!

Entrance fee: €0 for 5 and under; €5 for 6-12; €7 for 13-17
General Adult Admission – €10 (festival grounds only, daytime hours)
Family pass is €20 for 2 adults, up to 3 children (up to age 12) – (festival grounds only, daytime hours)
€30 Children’s package price (all 3 workshops and entrance fee)

Festival of the Silk Road

For the Festival of the Silk Road, Afsaneh Art & Culture Society unites a group of phenomenal Bay Area dance and musical guests to present a vibrant exploration of the rich cultural traditions of the Silk Road, as well as a not-to-miss pre-performance bazaar including traditional clothing, exhibits, art, and refreshments. This year’s festival will also showcase some dynamic innovations, a cross-pollination of culture and ideas, sizzling with poetic lyricism and dazzling moves.

In a joyful convergence of these ancient and influential cultures, the Festival of the Silk Road brings together an inspired roster of dance and musical artists including Ballet Afsaneh, Yore Turkish Folkdance Ensemble, the award-winning Chinese Performing Arts of America, Khukh Tenger – Mongolian Dance Group, Shahrzad Dance Company, and Niosha Dance Academy. Esteemed musical guests include: the Zaryab Persian Music Ensemble, Ebrahimi Brothers, Turkish Classical Music group, Chinese Performing Arts Music Ensemble …. many more!

Afsaneh Art & Culture Society (AACS) & Ballet Afsaneh proudly present Festival of the Silk Road 2011, a full of evening of dance, music and poetry from the Silk Road including Iran, Turkey, China, India, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan & Tajikistan on Saturday, May 7th, 2011. Ballet Afsaneh is the professional performance ensemble of the Afsaneh Art & Culture Society ;Now celebrating its 25 year anniversary in the Bay Area! This critically acclaimed group presents performances and activities in the Bay Area and beyond, featuring dance, poetry, and music of the Silk Road —the historic trade route stretching 7,000 miles across Eurasia from the China Sea in the east to the Mediterranean in the west. Gorgeously crafted, authentic and rarely-seen traditional dances from Central Asia and Iran as well as cutting-edge, contemporary work based on traditional themes. Hathor is an Ancient Egyptian goddess who personified the principles of love, motherhood and joy, and was one of the most important and popular deities throughout the history of Ancient Egypt. She was worshiped by royalty and common people alike in whose tombs she is depicted as “Mistress of the West” welcoming the dead into the next life, as well as a goddess of music, dance, foreign lands and fertility.

Hathor was deeply loved by the general population, and revered by women, who aspired to embody her multifaceted role as wife, mother, and lover. Tanjora explores all these elements with their unique style of Fusion Bellydance, along with guest artists the Eastern Sun Dance Company!
